Volvo models across Europe to warn each other of slippery roads and hazards

Volvo is making it's ground-breaking, industry-first safety technology available across Europe as an innovative step towards making the roads a safer place. 

Volvo has developed technology that will allow Volvo cars to communicate with each other and alert drivers of nearby slippery roads and hazards via a cloud-based network. 

Hazard Light Alert and Slippery Road Alert were first introduced in 2016 on Volvo's 90 Series in Sweden and Norway. *Hazard Light Alert and Slippery Road Alert is available on all Volvos based on the company's Scalable Product Architecture (SPA) or Compact Modular Architecture (CMA) from the model year 2016 and onwards. Next week, these feature become available to Volvo drivers across Europe. Hazard Light Alert and Slippery Road Alert come standard on all-new 2020 Volvos. 

Volvo's research suggests that adjusting speeds to traffic conditions can reduce the risk of accidents. But also, alerting people of dangers and hazards beforehand can support better driver habits and boost traffic safety.

Volvo Cars suggest that the automotive industry takes a leap in such safety precautions as sharing anonymized data related to traffic safety can provide a strong boost to overall traffic safety. Sharing such data in real time becomes more influential the more cars are connected.

Meanwhile, Slippery Road Alert allows the driver to be notified of both current road conditions and those on the road ahead, by anonymously collecting road surface information from cars further ahead on the road and warning drivers of slippery sections in advanced.

Finally, Volvo announced that it is making its safety knowledge easily accessible in a central digital library, which the company urges the car industry to use in the interest of safer roads.
